Men's Health .... Covers... Middle Age

During yet another lockdown clear out I stumbled across a huge pile of Men's Health magazines resembling the leaning tower of Piza - dusty and many still in the subscription delivery wrapping.

I had bought my OH a subscription to Men's Health many years ago and just kind of kept it going as birthday, Christmas gifts from the kids etc.

Obviously he's not interested - and on discussion I recognised that just as the female version doesn't really resonate with me - neither does the male version for a middle age man who works silly hours at his desk (and enjoys it) and watches sport more than he plays it! Whilst they do have features on fit at any age - the covers do all seem just a little bit too much muscle and trendy facial hair.

So with no offence to the magazine which is enjoyed by many -

it inspired me to write about the topic of Men's health - how we 'cover' it to recognise the ongoing negative stats in men's health in the UK

- 1 in 5 men die before the age of 65 - that's 20%

- 67% of men are overweight or obese

-76% of suicides are male

- 8.7% of men are alcohol dependent compared to 3.3% of women

And what about "Manopause" - a slow gradual hormonal change (technically called Andropause) resulting in decreased testosterone levels which can lead to many symptoms including lack of energy, change in body shape (loss of muscle mass, increased body fat), low sex drive and irritability.

That's all just for starters ..... mental health, coronary heart disease .... not very positive reading.

Which is why at Transform Body + Mind Coaching we look at a holistic approach to men's health just as we do for our women's health programmes. What's going on in terms of mindset, what are we fuelling our bodies with and how are we exercising them - all to create our best personal and professional life.

My OH loves cars and I encourage him to think about his body like his car - worth taking care of, annual MOT, don't try to drive his vintage from 0 to 100mph first thing in the morning, give it the best oil and fuel he can afford.

Our youngest male client is 15 and the eldest 87 proving that it's never too early or too late for us and you to focus on your health.

If you are interested in finding out more about our holistic health MOT's for you or your team then arrange to have one of our coffee and conversations we'd love to hear from you.
